SARAH POPPLETON
I get such a buzz from painting; I am happiest surrounded by oil paints, turps, brushes and rags in my sanctuary, my studio! I enjoy painting en plein air when I can and I find it refreshes my studio work. I am fascinated by the interplay of light, shadows and reflections in the landscape, and it is often a certain light effect that is the inspiration behind a painting. However, painting is very much a journey to explore what you can achieve, one idea leads on from another, and you can never stand still and merely repeat what has worked in the past. I love that journey of discovery.
I admire artists like Turner, Alfred Sisley, John Singer Sargeant, Ken Howard, Matthew Alexander and plein air artists such as Haidee-Jo Summers, Pete (the Street) Brown, and David Pilgrim, and I draw inspiration from their work. I have exhibited widely and organised successful group and solo exhibitions both in Harpenden and in Cornwall, and my work has found its way into private collections in Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, London, Cornwall and as far afield as Canada.
Painting is what makes me tick!
