A BIGGER PICTURE - DAVID HOCKNEY
The long awaited David Hockney exhibition 21 January to 9 April at the Royal Academy met all my expectations and more. The sheer vibrancy, colour and scale of his work stunned me. Unlike the Leonardo da Vinci exhibition which was so crowded it was difficult to move let alone see the pictures with any ease, the David Hockney exhibition while very busy never felt oppressively crowded. From a personal point of view the only work I did not like were his series of paintings based on Claude Lorrain’s picture painted in 1656 The Sermon on the Mount. I was not the only person to think this – I overheard other comments to the same effect. The iPad drawings made by Hockney were also on display plus his foray into film work. Overall, a brilliant exhibition that fully deserves a visit.

The Luton Hoo Walled Garden plays host to its third annual Open Art Exhibition, furthering its mission to promote this wonderful setting as an inspirational arts centre and creative haven. The theme this year is:
'GARDEN AND LANDSCAPE INSPIRED'

The Luton Hoo Walled Garden project was set up in 2001 to restore the garden back to a place of beauty to be enjoyed by all. It is an ideal subject for visually creative people who may wish to record its many stages of transformation. It is hoped that this evolving setting will become a location to continually inspire and encourage artists/photographers and more.
