‘Symbolism In European Art’
Martin Smith
Martin is a professionally trained art tutor who, in conjunction with The Watford Arts and Heritage Manager founded The Watford School of Drawing and Painting. He has been the tutor for Arts Culture Harrow and Watford Council and resident artist for Chalfont Lodge Care Centre.
This fascinating series of slides unravels symbols and devices from the worlds of mythology and emblematic imagery and enables us to decode hidden meanings concealed in paintings. Artists include Botticelli, Canaletto, Leonardo, Michelangelo, Rubens and Hogarth.

Kim Major George
Kim is an experienced artist/illustrator/author and teacher and has worked in art over 30 years. She currently works from her studio in Lilley.
 
Collagraph printmaking workshops. (£2 materials charge each evening).
A textured plate is made using various materials, sealed, inked, burnished and printed on a press.

Jan Makower
Jan, a highly respected and popular water colourist won the prize for the ‘best in show’ picture in 2010 Harpenden Arts Club Annual Exhibition.
Jan will concentrate on how to paint figures in watercolour.
Bring watercolours, brushes, palette, watercolour paper, sketchbook and pencils.

Mitzie Green
Mitzie, has participated in many exhibitions including the Royal Academy and the Mall Galleries. She has also won ‘best in show’ prizes from the St. Albans Art Society.
 
Acrylic/Collage demonstration.
Mitzie will create a landscape using collage and acrylic. 
She maintains that she has a strong bias towards tactile effects and a sensuous expression where visual dynamics and structure are being explored.

John will give a slide/lecture on ‘Wood Sculpture’.

Carol Rogers (UA)
Carol, who has participated in many local exhibitions, has much of her work abroad in private collections. Last year she won the Mayor’s Christmas card competition and raised £2,000 for charity.
 
Carol will be creating an underwater scene using water soluble oils.
